This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Music is the language of the spirit" - Kahlil Gibran
Our developing band program has eager students. We need a concert snare drum to add percussion sounds to our ensemble. Please help me bring the language of music to these deserving students.
I teach in a rural area of Tennessee in one of the most economically disadvantaged areas of the state.
My students respond well to music and it brings much joy into their daily lives. Our school district struggles financially but provides good quality school facilities and faculty. There is little funding left for music and this area has suffered over the years. I'm trying to gradually obtain the instruments the students need to have their best experience. We have a lot of fun in class and the students are making great strides learning to play their instruments.
My Project
Our percussion students all have a practice pad to use to practice their snare drum skills but no snare drum to play in class. This drum will allow them to continue to develop their skills by playing on a good quality snare drum to hear the sound and feel what it is like to play on a snare drum instead of only a practice pad.
While not every student in the band will play this instrument, they will all benefit from hearing the snare drum sound while they are playing their other wind instruments.
It will enhance the overall quality of the ensemble greatly.
