Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 96, 8th grade Middle School students. My students vary in range of their learning abilities and are all English Language Learners. As an ELA teacher my job is to bring these students up to their respective reading level and at times this is a challenge when not only am I teaching the content but also the language. I try to engage my students so they create a passion and love for reading. In my profession I have learned that every student has their own unique way of learning and my job is to support them in any way that I can.
My Project
My EL students have shown tremendous growth with their reading abilities through a range of hands on activities we do in our classroom. We use our interactive journals on a daily basis to have the students have hands on activities that better assist in their learning. I create exit tickets with content words to help build the students academic word level and utilize the laminator to be able to preserve and reuse these exit tickets. My students love to utilize colorful pens during note taking (as this is an all pencil school and students arent allowed to have any type of pens or makers) students use these pens in the classroom and leave them for the other classes to utilize as well.
