This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We need a working computer! Our twenty year old computers keep "running script"!

I have a wonderful class of twenty-two second grade students that are eager to learn and LOVE technology and their precious once-per-week computer time.

The majority of my students qualify for the free lunch program, which means they have socioeconomic needs. They come from hard working parents that try their best to provide well for their children, but times are tough in our state of CA, therefore most of my students don't have access to the luxury of having computers at home. We need a working laptop computer in our second grade classroom!

My Project

A laptop computer will impact my students' lives because we do not have access to one in our classroom at this time. It's so important in our world today to have access to the Internet, especially in a modern classroom. We have four very, very old computers and my students are not able to go online because after every page that they enter a pop-up asks them if they want to 'run script'. So, we are only only able to use disks and most of those are ten years old. With a new laptop, my students would be able to access the Internet! I would love for my students to be able to create stories from our Treasures reading program, learn how to do clip-art, check the weather and temperature of the day, view valuable clips of the curriculum we are studying, and use the computer as a reward after they've worked hard to finish all their classwork! A working laptop would be educational and motivating for my students. We currently only have access to a computer lab once per week!

Having a laptop computer in our classroom would a big difference in my students' lives.

The wealth of knowledge they will gain by the simple touch of a button will fascinate and awe them. I, as a teacher, would love to be able to use the computer in class to show my students a special clip pertaining to the curriculum we are studying. Books are wonderful but we need a computer too!
