This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students in the Orff Ensemble have worked very hard and have been recognized for their efforts. We have been chosen by the New Mexico Educators Association as the elementary school honor group, and we will perform at the All-State convention in January. I want to make a CD of the songs we present. My students need the services of a professional recording artist to record a CD.

Our school is in rural, isolated eastern New Mexico.

The city has a declining population and is considered high poverty. All students receive free breakfast, lunch and a snack. The students are hungry for knowledge and experiences. They continue to amaze me daily with their raw talent and exceed my expectations on a regular basis.

My Project

In preparing to record, the band will present concerts for the local Seniors Center, the school board, the railroad depot, the arts center and the community at our Christmas concert. The CD that we record will be an advertisement for the hard work and talent of the band for parents, relatives, teachers and members of the community.

The students will perform at Popejoy Hall, New Mexico's premiere performance venue, for an audience of over 1000 of New Mexico's music educators and students.

These positive musical experiences and memories will last a lifetime and are invaluable.
