This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of the greatest gifts that you can give any child is a love of reading. Reading opens the door to so many different opportunities that wouldn't exist without understanding how language plays a key role in our lives.
The novels I am asking for cover a variety of genres because I think it is important for students to understand that just like we are all unique, so are the different genres of books.
I have spent more money this year on novels than anything because seeing my students faces light up when they see new books makes it worth every penny.
My students are special because even though they may come to me in middle school as reluctant readers, when I put them in groups and have them explore the different genres they begin to see how we are all connected. Their conversations spark instances of realization that even though their lives may be different, they are not alone in this world.
