My Project

As I enter my twentieth year of teaching, I am eager to continue my professional learning in order to continue to grow as an Elementary General and Special Educator. In the past several years I have transitioned from classroom teaching to the role of Reading Specialist. In this role, I have earned my certifications in supporting striving readers and writers, including students with Dyslexia. I am so grateful to have expanded my expertise to ensure that my instruction aligns with current research about the reading brain. I would like to continue my learning to continue to support learners who have mastered foundational literacy skills and are ready for the next phase of literacy learning: Morphology! Morphology is the study of the structure of words. When students understand word parts and how they come together to form meaning - their vocabulary blossoms!

Many of my younger students have worked very hard to become proficient at learning how to decode words, but now need to learn about what those words mean so that they can comprehend what they have read.

Furthermore, by learning more about words, their oral language, and reading and writing vocabulary will flourish!

Almost all of my Reading Specialist training thus far has been paid out of pocket. I would be so grateful to be able to attend IMSE's 30 hour Morphology training course over the summer to prepare for instruction in the fall. My students and I are so grateful for any donations you can make to support this professional learning!
