My Students
The students in my classroom are the children that are coming to school to receive more than an education, but love and security as well. School is the only place in their lives where they are guaranteed a hot meal, heat on cold days, and someone to love them and give them loving attention. These students face everyday challenges due to being in a poverty-stricken community. These things are out of their control. Yet, also out of their comprehension due to being only 5 and 6 years old.
No matter what the world has thrown at them so far, my kindergarten students come to school with an excitement in their eyes and hearts of gold.
My Project
My students love reading. Unfortunately, most of my students come from homes where books do not exist. The only place they hear a story read to them is at school. I am currently teaching in a Title 1 school where the budget does not help fund books for an everyday Reading Curriculum. Any books that I use for lessons, come out of my own pocket. I am looking for help in funding these reading materials to help my students learn throughout the year. The Lakeshore Theme Book Libraries - Set 1 will be used year round. The best part of all, is that there at 15 other Kindergarten teachers ready to share these materials! We would be so excited to have these funded for our school and students!
