My Students
My students walk into our class every day full of life and ready to learn. I want each of my students to know they can achieve anything and to believe in themselves just like I do. The students in my classroom are comprised of general education students as well as students with various learning and emotional disabilities. On top of educational and emotional disabilities, many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school.
With that being said, how can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed?
The typical student in my class reads below grade level and many struggle with basic phonics, fluency and comprehension. We have created a safe , warm and loving classroom environment. The environment that has been created is the driving forces of my students achievement, how can they succeed if they don't have books on their reading levels.
My Project
[Honey is sweet] and so is knowledge, but knowledge is like the bee that made that sweet honey, you have to chase it through the pages of a book.” Help my students be able to chase knowledge through the pages of a book on their reading level. Our school is a Title I school in Harlem, NY that provides free or reduced lunch to approximately 90% of our students.
Each of my students need different materials and learning experiences in order to be successful.
By bringing just right books into our classroom library my 4th grade students will be provided with an avenue for success and be able to reach their reading goals of reading on grade level. Reading just right books will increase their focus and engagement which will ultimately increase their learning and success to meet their academic goals.
