This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I hope to make English come alive for my ESL students so they see greater academic success. Many of these students have been in the US for years and are in the final stages of their English language development. In addition to English, my students speak African languages, Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, French, Chinese, Vietnamese, and more.
The intermediate to advanced ESL students I teach sometimes get "stuck" and progress is harder to attain.
BrainPop could be the resource that puts them over the top and then be considered a FORMER English Learner!
My Project
In this tech-heavy world, students seem to respond to video over traditional teaching methods. I currently don't have the resources to take advantage of this. BrainPop and BrainPopELL will help keep my students engaged in their own learning and further develop language development.
For any concept I teach, whether it is a Common Core standard or a WIDA standard, I can use BrainPop and BrainPop ELL to keep student language development on track and FUN!
I've had access to this resource in the past through trial memberships. Tim and Moby, the main characters are entertaining for both students and teachers. Most importantly, these website memberships will give my students another pathway to access the curriculum.
