I have a wonderful and very sweet group of first graders. My class is made up of 22 children that work hard every day to learn as much as they can.
They love to read, write and use their imaginations!
They are a very diverse group that learn in many different ways and have different educational needs. Many of my students have specific needs relating to sensory/visual support and ADD/ADHD support, alongside academic accommodations.
Our school is located in a small rural community with students from varying backgrounds.
My Project
First graders are held to high expectations in today's world of education. They work hard everyday to achieve their goals and to learn as much as possible. Any support that we can give to these students is impactful. Even something as small as allowing them to move just a little more during the school day.
Research shows that one way to help students in primary grades to focus is to allow them an outlet for their excess energy.
In school, there are only so many of these opportunities built into their day. These wiggle seats will allow my students to focus, stay engaged and learn all while getting their wiggles out. They will use them during small group centers with writing, math and literacy.
