My students need specific stories to prompt their writing to grow and explore different forms of writing. The extra labels will help them see their progress!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Putting pencil to paper is one of the most basic and influential forms of expression that we can use as human beings. My students have stories to tell and you can help!
My students are some amazing first graders in Mississippi that come from a low income rural county.
Many of them are school dependent for food, materials, and services. They are the strongest most brilliant people I know and they deserve an opportunity to share that with the world. This is why I have adopted a new writing workshop so that they can grow at least a year and a half ahead of grade level, which will give them the boost they need to succeed despite their obstacles.
My Project
The books I have requested will prompt the mini lessons and give students an example of each type of writing we want to master this year in first grade. They are teacher -nominated and approved in the workshop that I am using and great reads for my students. Some of them are two years above grade level to promote that growth I am striving for! There are also label materials included so that I can encourage them to edit their work and really strive to make their writing the best it can be. The stories will be used to help them understand narrative text, how to writing, personal narrative, fiction, non-fiction, and descriptive language; just to name the major focuses we will be going over this year. I am so excited to really push their writing to its full potential and help them discover a voice in the world.
Good writing can make my students ready for the next grade, but it is very crucial that I build a good foundation so that they become confident into higher education and the workplace.
These skills will stick with them forever. High expectations are key to getting my students in the habits that produce the work ethic they need to overcome situations outside of their control, give them a way to release emotions, and give them the tools they need to succeed!
