With access to ink and paper, I have been able to provide clear, high-quality materials that support reading, writing, and skill practice. My students were excited to receive fresh packets, graphic organizers, and activities that helped them stay organized and fully engaged. Having these resources available ensured that every student had what they needed to participate and learn without interruptions.\r\n\r\nThese materials also allowed me to better prepare my students for important classroom assignments and assessments. I was able to print targeted practice, small group resources, and review materials that supported their individual learning needs. These texts introduce and reinforce phonics patterns, high-frequency (sight) words, and simple sentence structures. Students are learning to use picture clues, sound out unfamiliar words, and build fluency by reading short, predictable stories. We also focus on comprehension skills such as retelling the story, identifying characters and setting, and answering basic questions about what they read. These books give students the confidence they need to move from learning to read toward reading independently.\r\n\r\nReading time in my classroom is active and engaging. Students participate in small-group guided reading, partner reading, and independent reading. During guided reading, I work closely with groups to practice decoding strategies, fluency, and comprehension. Students also use whisper reading and tracking with their fingers to stay focused and build accuracy. We often follow reading with a quick discussion, drawing, or writing activity to help students connect with the text.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were once hesitant readers are especially excited about the new books. They love that the stories feel just right for their level, and many proudly ask to reread them multiple times. One of my struggling readers now volunteers to read aloud during small group, and another student enjoys taking the books home to share with family. Seeing their confidence grow and their excitement about reading increase has been one of the most rewarding parts of introducing these new texts.","fullyFundedDate":1746708423145,"projectUrl":"project/turning-pages-changing-lives/9231067/","projectTitle":"Turning Pages, Changing Lives!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3896835_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1497233362463","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3896835"},{"teacherId":3896835,"projectId":9291059,"letterContent":"We are using the new resources every single day, and they have already made a huge difference in how my students learn and work in the classroom. One special moment that stands out was during our literacy block. Each student grabbed a clipboard and a sharpened pencil as we rotated through phonics activities, reading gallery walks, and Write the Room. The clipboards allow students to write comfortably while standing and moving around the classroom, which keeps them engaged and excited about learning. My students felt like \"real readers and writers,\" and the level of focus during these activities was incredible to see.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement. They were especially thrilled by the colorful mesh zipper pouches, which we now use to hold materials for both small-group instruction and whole-group phonics lessons. These pouches keep letter cards, word-building materials, index cards, and checking pencils organized and easily accessible. Several students said, \"These are ours?\" and \"This feels like a real classroom!\" Having their own tools gave them a strong sense of ownership and responsibility, which has already improved classroom routines and transitions.\r\n\r\nThanks to our donors, you've truly gotten a peek into a classroom where students feel prepared and confident. Right now, we are using these supplies to support phonics instruction, reading response activities, and writing practice. Students are building words, recording sounds, editing their work with checking pencils, and organizing materials independently using the zipper pouches.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students include expanding our phonics skills into stronger reading and writing projects, including full stories, opinion pieces, and reading journals. As I prepare to move into a new classroom, my goal is to continue creating a well-organized, welcoming learning space by adding new supplies and classroom furniture that will support collaboration, creativity, and student independence.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping create a classroom where students feel excited to learn, proud of their work, and supported every step of the way","fullyFundedDate":1746708423001,"projectUrl":"project/equipped-to-learn-ready-to-shine/9291059/","projectTitle":"Equipped to Learn, Ready to Shine","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3896835_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1497233362463","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3896835"},{"teacherId":3896835,"projectId":9129155,"letterContent":"The phonics kits I created using mirrors, notecards, bingo chips, markers, and dry-erase boards have made a powerful difference in how my students engage with learning. One meaningful moment was watching students use mirrors to carefully observe their mouth movements while practicing sounds, then use bingo chips and notecards to build, segment, and blend words on their boards. These hands-on tools have helped students become more confident and willing to take risks, and many are showing clear progress in sound recognition, decoding, and spelling.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were excited and curious because the kits felt like learning tools rather than worksheets. The interactive nature of the materials motivated even my most reluctant learners to participate and stay focused. Thanks to the success of these kits, the next steps are to expand phonics instruction by creating additional kits and materials so my coworkers can use the same hands-on approach in their classrooms.
