This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This school year, I work at a Title I elementary school that hosts several special day classes for students with special needs. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, having a technologically savvy computer is very crucial during this teletherapy era.

Most of my students are non-verbal and minimally verbal.

They have tremendous difficulty expressing their needs. They could not tell what bothers and hurt them. As a result, they often feel frustrated. In addition, many of these students have a very short attention span and self-injurious behaviors.

Therefore, I am in need of an up-to-date computer that allows me to use different interactive software and share educational apps during my virtual therapy sessions. An up-to-date computer also allows me to install a picture communication app that my non-verbal students can learn from in order to communicate their needs and ideas. All in all, an up-to-date computer will enable me to give my non-verbal students a voice as well as empower them with strategies to succeed in the distance learning era.

My Project

An up-to-date computer will allow me to use engaging technology to teach my non-verbal students. They will see interactive activities and applications during sessions.

Many of my non-verbal students have a short attention span and stimming behaviors.

These difficulties require me to use interactive activities to make them stay engaged during teletherapy. My current computer is not technologically savvy enough to let me use various programs and software. As a result, it affects session productivity.

Distance learning has created a lot of hurdles for my non-verbal students. I am hoping to use technology to help them learn effectively.
