Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Distance learning has been challenging! My dedicated fourth graders do their best to meet with me online, learn new things, and complete work while at home. They do all of this while trying to remain positive and excited about learning. Staying at home day after day hasn't been easy for them, especially when they are used to a fast paced, fun, organized classroom where their teacher can help them. Now they have to rely on my lessons taught online, videos I record of myself teaching lessons, and a new online classroom setup that has been challenging to become familiar with. Through it all, though, they have continued to do their work with a smile and are eager to learn new things that will get them ready for fifth grade.

Currently, my students are learning using the school-issued Chromebooks they have with them at home.

Although many of them have parents who are still working during the pandemic, they do their best to connect with me and others while distance learning. Right now, I am doing my best to teach them with the minimal items they took with them from the classroom!

My Project

During this pandemic I am helping my students continue to be successful learners. Distance learning has been demanding, to say the least, but we do what we can to ensure students receive the education they deserve. My students and I rely on technology to keep connected. Every day, they meet with me online for directed lessons and to watch videos I record for them. To help make this process easier, I need a portable dry erase board easel. It has been hard for me to demonstrate math lessons on a dry erase board I am holding with one hand while writing with the other. This small easel would make it so much easier for me to write out math problems and use the magnetic fraction kit I am asking for. I can stand it up horizontally and vertically while using fraction magnets to teach multiplying fractions. In order to demonstrate lessons, I also need dry erase markers. Having a variety of colored markers would be great when teaching. Additionally, demonstrating and filming lessons is difficult to do from a portable table in my dining room. This is why I am asking for a tripod and chair. It is important that I demonstrate lessons and record them for the students who are unable to meet online. I need to be able to sit comfortably and film videos that are not handheld and shaky. The chair and tripod would help with this significantly. I will able to sit and reach the new dry erase board with ease and not have to bother with holding my phone to record lessons.

Having these few simple items can make teaching from home so much easier.

I want be able to teach my students effectively, so they will be ready for fifth grade next year.
