Help me give my students sensory-friendly lights, oil diffusers, and essential oils to help our friends with special needs to regulate themselves. We also need correct power for the lights and diffusers to make them user-friendly.
My students are awesome! They come from a variety of different backgrounds. Many are from economically challenged parts of town. Some had riots in their neighborhood last year, and even more have parents who fled war-torn parts of Europe, Africa, and Asia. My students speak several different languages at home. Many of my students have disabilities that act as speed bumps on their road to success.
My students want to succeed in this world, but they just need help.
They like to move, they love to talk and they love technology. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households. Many move every few weeks and even more receive free lunch and breakfast at school. They need positive examples and some extra help. This includes STEM subject areas and learning the four Cs.
My Project
Every student in the school comes to our computer class. For some students, this is their only time throughout the day without extra adult help. Their classmates have done a wonderful job of creating a warm, caring environment. But we need more help.
The lights in our room are very harsh and hum, making our classroom unwelcoming to many special needs students.
On many days, we want to turn off our normal lights and use a variety of lights which will help calm our friends. The LED rope lights and Star Wars lights are calming and don't make noises. The Himalayan salt lights and essential oils also help promote a calm atmosphere. These additions to our room will work great with items we've already brought into the classroom.
