Help Me Make My Math Classroom Sun-Powered!

Help me give my students the ability to contribute to the class from their seats, and recharge their calculators via the sun! I will put the solar panels on the roof above my classroom so students can charge!

My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds (70% Urban, 30% suburban). Many different cultures are represented too, and several languages. Most importantly, they are struggling math learners who require lots of help in order to understand the basic mathematical concepts necessary for their success in school and in life.

I teach Geometry and Data to high school students.

What most of my students have in common is that they don't usually succeed in mathematics. Thanks for anything you can do to make my subject accessible to my classes.

My Project

Students can learn to live by the Goal Zero motto - which is to not need to be attached to a grid, paying energy costs. They will benefit from the idea that their devices are being sun-powered, and that the classroom calculators, wireless mice and keyboards, and even the batteries for the older calculators are being charged by the sun.

Learning to be energy independent, conservation minded global citizens cannot help but to make my students think about their own consumption.

We will also track the amount of energy saved, by using the Goal Zero's battery meter, and use it for statistical analysis in my math classroom. This will tie into our 1960s coached project, because a large part of the hippie movement in the 60s was about conservation and the earth.
