Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I, K-5 magnet school that educates almost 700 students each year. The students at my school come from a wide range of family dynamics. Some live in traditional households, while others live with single parents or extended family. My students' economic situations are just as varied as their family dynamics and more than sixty percent of our school qualifies for free lunch. We have a hardworking staff and hard-working students that have resulted in being named a School Of Distinction for the second year in a row.
A large percentage of our school population consists of English language learners.
Seventy-five percent of my class speaks more than one language and often English is not spoken when they are at home. Regardless of these factors, every one of my students always possesses a passion for learning, exploring, and creating.
My Project
In order to teach remotely, I will need some relevant and engaging books to help connect with my young students. Books like "Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?" will help spark positive and inspirational conversations during this difficult time when I read aloud to my students digitally each Friday. I'd also like to be able to mail each student the "Summer Big Fun Workbook" by Highlights Magazine. This workbook is made for the summertime, and is organized week-by-week. It is also aligned with state standards.I know my students will love the puzzles that make skills-practice fun, plus the fun reward stickers and the extra activities that they can take outdoors are sure to be a big hit.
My main goal is to make sure my students feel loved and remembered during this very difficult time.
By supporting my project, you will not only help put smiles on their faces, but you will also help keep them enriched during the summertime as they prepare for 2nd grade. Everyone loves getting a fun package in the mail, especially when it's covered with stickers and Sesame Street stamps. Please help me spread joy to my first graders!
