Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the hardest working kids you will ever meet. Many of them come from single parent homes. Their parents work hard to provide the basic necessities, often working 2-3 jobs just to make ends meet. Our district is high poverty, 90% receiving free or reduced price lunch, and most (80%) of the students in my class are second language learners. Often the children are unable to get help at home from their parents due to the language barrier. Many of my students are also special needs children, they don't quite learn the same way that other students do.
My hope is to use the donation assist my new English language learners become immersed in vocabulary using technology.
Many of my students do not have access to tablets or computers in their homes. I would love the students to be able to use a Chromebook to practice their Rosetta Stone at their own desks so that they may acquire English at a faster pace.
My Project
We only have 4 computer in the classroom to share among 30 students which limits how much time each student can spend on the computer. I want to give my new language learners more time on a district provided program called Rosetta Stone. This program helps my students with learning English. Having a Chromebook available to my students allows them to be able to work at their own desk to go online. Having portable technology also allows the children to be comfortable in any space available in the classroom as well. Please help me to help my students reach our goal.
