Help me give my students a classroom that is more autism-friendly, starting with a library, and providing hands-on activities for my nine non-verbal students.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are nine non-verbal kiddos, ages 11 to 14. They crave sensory. I was terrified of this classroom at the beginning of the year when I took over. It’s February and I’m in love. I have a student saying three words, with hand gestures and constant eye contact who didn’t acknowledge the fire alarm the first time we had one. They argue with me with their communication devices like any other teenager. I want to give everything but cannot afford it personally. My district can’t fund these things either. These are things I’ve tried out by purchasing from my paycheck. Now I need more or to replace books. I have zero access to low-level books. My science and social studies supplies are very limited. They love hands-on activities. Help me bring joy to my kiddos as they argue with me using their communication devices or listen to Golden Girls on repeat.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
