Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Title I STEAM and Social Justice magnet emphasizes the respect of self and others. Our pedagogy includes discipline and high expectations, as well as activism and compassion. Our African-American students share the school with Latino children and a few Asian kids. This mix offers unlimited opportunities to learn tolerance and teamwork while discovering new perspectives.
Students will not only be trained to be problem-solvers but will also consider how their solutions affect the environment and all members of society, here and abroad.
However, our school and our families can't afford the additional resources we need to support independent learning in a digital world and significantly improve student achievement. Thank you for helping our kids become successful, responsible, and productive citizens!
My Project
As schools closed for the year, and may be closed again next winter, teaching became a new challenge. The many educational videos that exist online do not know my students and are not tailored to my class. I used a curriculum that aims for comprehension, not just rote memory. Unfortunately, my 15-year-old Dell is dying when I need it the most, and my school can't even afford to give me a student Chrome.
With this laptop, a MacBook Pro, I could easily create clips with special cuts to address the different levels of student performance.
It would allow me to curate and modify activities fast. I would then be able to address more deeply my students' needs. Back in the classroom, my kids would be able to use this laptop, hooked to our projector, to present their work or even learn what the real apps can do!
