My Students
I have the privilege of teaching a fantastic group of +20 first graders at a Title I elementary school that acts as a Community Hub, offering wrap around services to support the whole child and their families. We have over 20 different languages/dialects spoken at our school, with families coming from all corners of the world. The vast majority of students (close to 90%) qualify for free or reduced price lunches, therefore we are able to provide every student with a daily breakfast, lunch, and snack. I can't picture myself working at another school, the students are wonderful and the families and community members are extremely supportive.
My Project
These materials will be used to support comprehension in numerous ways. The color printer and color Expo markers will support students below grade level in literacy better understand instruction and academic based activities. For example, coloring can help support students' recognition of various quantities in math, or blends and digraphs in phonics. We currently don't have access to a color printer. The batteries are for my microphone neckless, which allows students to hear me and each other better as we all stay safe by wearing our mask and socially distance in the classroom. The classroom timer helps students who struggle with transitions and time management become more independent in these areas, and the pencils are a basic necessity of all our activities.
