My Students

My students are AWESOME! I work in a community in Texas that was one of the hardest hit areas during Hurricane Harvey last year.

Even a year after Hurricane Harvey, many of my students are still displaced as they wait for their housing repairs to be completed.

Many lost everything they own, including electronics they use for school such as Chromebooks, tablets, e-readers, textbooks, and books for independent reading. Despite this struggle for resources, they have amazing attitudes and are always open to learning new things. I'm so thankful to have great students! They are dedicated, determined, and driven with a sincere love of learning; I'm inspired by them every day.

My Project

My students need to become better, more proficient writers. In order to do so, they must become better readers. Surrounding them with books gives them many choices and gives them more opportunities to find books they enjoy! Many of my students haven't read a book "just for fun" since elementary school!

Studies show that students who read even an extra 10 minutes a day are exposed to 104% more words!

Becoming more literate is absolutely necessary for all students. I want reading to become exciting for my students so that they learn to love it and become better writers in the process!
