This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Welcome to Pre-K! Our classroom is very diverse and is comprised of students from all parts of the city. We have students from all walks of life, including English Language Learners, Autistic Support Students, Learning Support students and students that are economically disadvantaged. Many of our students come from broken homes and do not have the advantages that come from having a stable home environment. Eighty-seven percent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Though many of my students are faced with many challenges, they are always excited to learn!
My classroom is comprised of 17 absolutely wonderful three, four, and five-year-old children.
Every day these young students walk into the classroom with smiles on their faces and eager to learn, play, and grow. The Pre-K classroom is a busy environment where student learning is infinite. In our classroom everyone is a teacher, adults teach children, children teach their peers and it makes my heart smile that every day children also have the opportunities to teach adults.
My Project
In the preschool classroom students are always learning! Most of our learning is through play and peer interactions however, today’s day and age is so involved with technology I would like to also provide our preschools an opportunity to have time to also learn to use developmentally appropriate technology.
With the use of iPad minis, preschool students can handle a tool that will fit appropriately in their tiny hands and have access to educational games that help them further their development.
The iPad minis will be loaded with games that help them not only learn to problem solve academically but also socially through reenactments.
We would also be using the iPad minis as a substitution for computers in our classroom because our classroom is not large enough to house them, however, iPad minis are nice and small and do not take up nearly as much space and do not require as many outlets.
Finally, the use of the iPad minis will ultimately provide the students with multiple learning style choices. The students can focus on games that are more musically focused if that is their learning preference, or they may prefer to learn though more hands on activities and a student could pick a game more geared towards that learning style. Overall, iPad minis in the preschool classroom will provide the students with developmentally appropriate technology that they can engage themselves with their preferred learning styles.
