This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I remember playing in the street or park afterschool with friends! My students live in a neighborhood where that is unsafe. I grew up being outside to exercise and socialize. Students in my class are forced to do that indoors. This equipment gives them that freedom of being outside indoors!!!

My students are 100% free lunch supported low income products of a poor and dangerous section of New York.

They are limited in many ways except in how they love and how they learn. I have grown to love my students and I would think they feel the same about me. I try to give them the experiences I had as a young student within the means I can provide. But in our economic climate where kids worry if they will be warm at night or have enough to eat it's hard to ask for wants when you have needs! I used to think my students were lazy when they didn't do my homework. But I learned that when you are more worried about when lunch is served or if my classroom will be warm enough homework is the least of your worries. I asked my students "how do you learn best?" They said video games! I didn't grow up in the digital age they are in! So I got an old XBox for my class and everything changed! My kids were happier, grades improved, and we are learning more together everyday!!!

My Project

After doing some research on what the XBox systems can provide I learned how much they have advanced in the creation of history around our globe. As a history teacher I can provide a textbook lecture about the Crusades or crashing the beach heads at Normandy during World War II. I can even show a movie of the wars and bring in guest speakers who were there. The games on this system take the students and put them in the place of soldiers through a crash course of live event learning that nothing can duplicate outside of really being there! The graphics and narratives that come with the games are also exceptional. The wireless also lets my students communicate and play against other schools without leaving the school. No buses to pay for!! And lastly, the motion sensor games let my students get the much needed exercise they desire. Whether they are flying a tiger jet in Vietnam or the girls are involved in a dance competition with two other schools, they are learning safely!

There are many deserving classrooms across the country that possess wonderful educators teaching eager and able students.

I only know how much this gift would live my students and my school in general! My students overcome more in one semester in school then a lot of other students would encounter in their entire school careers. The basic needs my student's go without and still become successful is a miracle in itself. My student's are used to doing more with less! Now let's give them MORE!!
