My classroom is part of Comprehensive Special Education Program. My student population consists on of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disabilities and Intellectual Disabilities, some students performing 2 or 3 grade levels below grade level.
My school is a student-centered environment filled with Teachers and Students who are "Great By Choice!" We embody this district-wide motto because, as a team, we are continuously brainstorming ways to evolve as educators.
We encourage our students to be the best learners possible! Our influence extends beyond books; we are also advocates for family involvement and community service, thus connecting the learning process from school to the real world!
Due to the nature of certain disabilities and learning styles, my students depend heavily on visual elements being incorporated into everyday lessons. With a projector and document camera, I will be able to do just that! This camera will allow me to project text materials, organizers and content related objects for whole group learning and teacher modeling. We need a document camera, a projector and Osmo technology resources to support literacy growth. Through the use of the Osmo learning applications, I envision interactive word play and spelling practice in morning activities, as well as partner/group play projected on the screen for all students to participate. The Osmo also allows use of other technologies, such as the iPad, which enlists both direct educational and exploratory opportunities for learning. Going into my fifth year of Special Education, I have seen many students THRIVE through the support of technology.
It is my hope that this project can provide just that; materials to support both Reading and Mathematics Literacy.
But not only that, I want to use these materials to immerse my kiddos into our learning curriculum, taking advantage of this technological era they were raised in so they can soar and grow into their future! This project will support them becoming truly GREAT BY CHOICE!
