My Project

I teach in a minority majority high school in Wisconsin. I have traditional US History classes and a freshmen college prep world history class.

Imagine stepping into a classroom on a sweltering September or May day.

The air is heavy and damp and concentration is hard to come by.

In such conditions, portable air conditioners become not just a luxury, but a necessity. It provides relief from the oppressive heat, creating a comfortable environment conducive to learning. With 600 students passing through my classroom yearly, the impact on learning is significant.

First, consider the physiological effects. High temperatures lead to fatigue, dehydration, and decreased cognitive functions. Portable air conditioning mitigates these risks, ensuring students are alert and able to fully engage with material.

Secondly, there's the psychological impact. A hot and muggy classroom can create feelings of discomfort and irritability, distracting students from their studies. By introducing portable air conditioners, the classroom becomes a more inviting space, fostering a positive learning environment where students feel valued and supported.

Moreover, there's the educational aspect. History is a subject that demands focus and paying attention and detail. In a cooler, more comfortable setting, students are better equipped to absorb information, participate in discussions and ultimately, excel academically.
