Wow! Our kindergarten students are amazing! Not only are they learning how to be learners in school, they are doing it in two languages: English and Spanish. They are learning foundational language arts and math skills in addition to social skills while spending half of their day immersed in an English speaking class and half of their day immersed in a Spanish speaking classroom.
Our students love learning in both languages, meeting new challenges daily while showing incredible perseverance and curiosity about the world.
They are fearless when it comes to technology, and as children growing up in the 21st century they need to be prepared to use it.
My Project
Our school district aims to embody 21st century teaching principles, including the integration of technology. In our kindergarten classrooms we use iPads in many ways: for interventions, for enrichment opportunities, and as a way to practice skills that we are working on everyday. Students can practice foundational literacy skills, letter formation, and basic math on iPads. They also can use this technology to learn new Spanish vocabulary and practice Spanish language.
In 21st century schools technology can play a large role in preparing students for future careers.
We were lucky enough to receive new iPads in each of our kindergarten classrooms this year as part of our technology replacement cycle, but there was not enough funding to purchase iPad cases. In an active kindergarten classroom where iPads get regular use, it is necessary to protect this investment. If we had these covers we would not be limited in the way that we could use the iPads in and out of the classroom.
