My class is full of 20 PreKinders from an urban area in the middle of Memphis, TN. We are four and five years old. Our program is designed to meet the needs of children who are academically and socioeconomically disadvantaged. Our main goal is to prepare students for Kindergarten. Our class is comprised of many different cultures, backgrounds, and interests. Even though we may have lots of diversity in our classroom, but we all love to learn and have fun!
This project is to raise money for a storage shed for our playground equipment. An important part of Pre-K is learning through play. We do this to work on social and emotional interactions, imagination, and gross motor skills. This can be done anywhere, but our favorite place is our new playground. During play, we use different kinds of equipment, including balls, hula hoops, jump ropes, chalk, and our tricycle. This storage shed will give us a place to keep our equipment close to the playground, out of the elements, and safe from being taken or used by other playground visitors.
