My students need non-fiction books to help them think critically, better understand how their thinking can be manipulated, and how the past has often been rewritten to suit the interests of those in power.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It is my privilege to work with such intelligent, charismatic, and dedicated students. Almost all of my students are the children of immigrants, and they carry the hopes and dreams of not only their own futures but of their parents as well. Although many parents are not able to help their children with their homework due to language barriers, they work long hours, help keep them out of trouble, and show them all the love and affection in the world. It truly is an honor to work alongside these families.
Unfortunately, my school often lacks the resources for students to pursue their own interests and expand their horizons.
This project aims to create a non-fiction library that will help students re-examine their own thinking, the role of genetics and the environment in personal development, think critically, and learn more about some of the greatest people and events of history.
My Project
These materials will serve as the foundation of a non-fiction library which students will be able to reference to learn more about the world, about how they think and to think critically about how historical events have been taught to them compared to what really happened.
Students constantly come up to me, curious to know more about a subject, but I do not have the additional resources to share with them so that they can pursue their greatest interests independently.
Furthermore, many of my students have become incredibly interested in psychology and tricks often used by "fake news" sources to manipulate others. These books will help students learn some of these common tricks to not only protect themselves from false information but also to think critically about all media they come in contact with.
