Help! I Want My Kindergartners to Read

My Project

Once again I’m pleading on behalf of my students to have a great year of school despite the challenges they continually face. A few of my students transitioned to shelters during the first few months of school, and I’m amazed at their resilience. I hear numerous stores of the things they encounter at home , sometimes during our Social Emotional Learning sessions or just through simple conversations. On occasion parents share in confidence when they need help, and at times my students share willingly; but what amazes me is how learn to adapt and never give up despite they obstacles they face outside of the classroom. Some students strive and succeed despite the obstacles, however, they’re some who just can’t focus. Hence, I’m requesting items that will help fill in those gaps to bring some peace, love and joy In their second home…our classroom . The majority of my students entered kindergarten like an empty slate, without any concept of letters and sounds recognition as well as numbers, but after repetition and daily drilling using a lot of teacher made materials, some of them are now able to decode CVC words(cat, nap, bug) and read high frequency words( the, in, on, at). I would like to see the number of students reading increase, hence, I am requesting Books, toys for our treasure box to motivate and reward their efforts. Learning in a calm environment is also critical to academic success, therefore, the calming cubes will add to our calm center for students who just need a calm down moment.
