My students need these hands on activities, including the Reading & Writing Activity Stations and the set of Common Core Language Arts Standards Learning Centers, to keep them motivated and engaged in learning during independent work time. This allows me time to work with small groups.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help me be a great first year teacher! We all know that working with students in small groups or one on one is the best way for students to excel. I will use these materials to allow my students to practice skills, as I custom make and deliver instruction to all my students on a rotating basis.
My students are second graders at a public city school.
They have open minds and are willing to learn. My students vary in academic levels. I have a small group of high achievers that will need to be challenged using these materials. I have a larger number of students performing at grade level. These students will benefit from practice, using these Common Core materials. And finally, I have a large group of students that need individual attention to enhance their learning and solidify basic language arts skills. My school is improving their aptitude scores and I want my students to be able to score proficient or higher. My students enjoy being read to and want to gain strong reading skills so they too can read the books of their choice. My students are ready to learn!
My Project
Using these Common Core language arts materials, my students will improve their skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Each morning, during Universal Access time, my students will work in small groups to practice language art skills like sequencing, cause and effect and text structure. As they rotate through the stations I have created using these resources, they will practice reading fluency and comprehension. At another station, students will practice writing narratives, opinion pieces and informational texts. They will have opportunities to listen to children's literature and evaluate text. They will be encouraged to share out discoveries, ideas and personal writing pieces practicing public speaking strategies. My students will gain self esteem, literary confidence and a love for reading that will last a lifetime. These resources will allow me time to support all of this learning.
I had a first grade teacher tell me that she gives a very special gift to all her students, the gift of reading.
She was right. Students that read well succeed in all areas of academics and at all academic levels. Strong reading skills keep us from being bored on rainy days and create inventions on our vacations. Strong reading skills can help my students become whatever it is that they dream to be please help make their dreams, and my dreams as a new teacher become a reality.
