Students are working harder on their fluency, turning in their assignments, and taking more pride in their progress because they feel recognized and rewarded. Our new Thanksgiving books, including How to Catch a Turkey, have been a hit during read-alouds and sparked thoughtful discussions and joyful laughter. Students also use their highlighters during math to mark important information, which has helped them better understand and break down word problems.\r\n\r\nWhat excites them most, though, are the new STEAM toys and puzzles. These materials have encouraged teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving in ways that feel like play. When I flipped the top of the box and revealed that there were brand-new chairs inside, I was surprised to see that they were so excited. A couple of students noticed the color because it ties into the theme of our classroom. \r\n\r\nHaving new chairs has helped create stress-free, organized, and quieter transitions throughout the entire school day because the new chairs are not noisy when students transition, and we have enough chairs.
