Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school in East San Jose. A majority of my students are first-generation Americans with hardworking immigrant parents. Seventy percent of the students at my school are receiving free or reduced-priced lunch.

I teach a wonderful group of Kindergarten students.

My students are hard working and enthusiastic learners. They are easily motivated and enjoy attending school every day. They are always excited to try and learn new concepts. My students inspire me every day to be a better teacher.

My Project

Reading is an essential skill for all students to learn. I am so proud to say that a third of my students are beginning to read independently with fluency. They have made tremendous growth in reading, but I still have a handful of students who are still struggling. I am requesting for a Fountas and Pinnell Literacy Intervention System that includes small group guided reading lessons, assessments and leveled books that will help my struggling readers. I will use these materials 3 to 4 times a week during centers. I know that this is a REALLY EXPENSIVE project to fund but helping a young child to read is truly PRICELESS. Any donations to this will be greatly appreciated.
