I teach kindergarten in a low income school with 650 students and 62% free and reduced lunches. This year my class observed the life cycle of frogs by watching tadpoles turn into frogs. They used magnifying glasses and lab coats as they used tools scientist would use. They had their own science journal and recorded information, drew pictures of the daily changes and formulated their hypothesis of the preferences of the frogs as they observed them in their tank. The students were responsible for the care and feeding of the frogs, thus learning how to care for living things. The students were very intrigued with the frogs and this provided opportunities to discover the exciting world of science. We have a grave problem now! The frogs have a 18 year life expectancy. They have outgrown their small tank and their movement is very limited. We are in need of a larger aquarium and supplies to provide a better habitat for our pets. We would appreciate your generosity for helping with this project. The frogs will be used for many years in our science curriculum. Our focus will be on the care of living things. The next classes will also have science journals and will document the frogs activities. They will also observe the frogs' preferences in their habitat and by observing when the frogs are most active in the tank. One of the objectives of observing the frogs is to discover what living things need to survive. These frogs will provide many hours of lessons and enjoyment to my students.
