Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my classes are 10th grade English classes.

My students are diverse and curious.

Although they may come from different backgrounds, they often pull together as a group. Most of them enjoy group discussions and getting the chance to state their opinions and make choices. They also like to take charge of their own learning.

They love to be challenged as long as they are encouraged to believe that they can meet the challenge.

Of my 108 10th graders (I also have students in grades 9-12), 18 are English learners.

My Project

My students and I need help building a classroom library featuring books from a variety of different reading levels to meet the needs of everyone. Students are more likely to read, and to finish a book, if they get to choose.

These books are high interest, multicultural texts, including those by marginalized and underrepresented authors.

This is so important, especially for the diverse population in my classroom.

My students want to read more, but they are not always all satisfied with the limited choices. Not everyone is going to enjoy every whole class text. That is why a diverse classroom library full of highly interesting texts is so important.
