Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At my school, we have 40+ special education students that greatly need a space on campus to regulate their sensory systems, de-escalate, and take a break. Each student has their own unique personality that makes them special and they deserve to have a place on campus where they feel safe to calm down and utilize the proper sensory tools. Our student's with disabilities range from students with visual impairments, autism, physical disabilities, nonverbal kids, wheelchair users as well as other intellectual and physical impairments. These students work so hard everyday and are proud of the work they do.

At a high needs title one school, we are trying our best to make do with what we have but we are in desperate need of new equipment to help our students with Autism and other disabilities get to baseline and make learning meaningful.

We currently have a motor lob/ sensory room on campus but equipment requires updating. Sensory integration is an amazing strategy to support students in effectively processing and responding to sensory input. However, in order to be successful for all students, the proper resources are needed. Thank you in advance for your generosity, keep making the world a better place :)
