This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located a few miles from the California-Mexico border with 100% of our students receiving free and reduced-price lunch. We are a class of first and second-grade students who are anxious and happy to learn. With the curriculum becoming more rigorous, especially in reading and math, we want to be able to experience the learning firsthand and be focused. Our class is an active bunch of students who are highly engaged and ready to dive into learning.
My Project
Our students have 1:1 IPads as I have found that iPads are a lot more user friendly in the primary grades as they learn to navigate technology. The touch screen allows for them to be able to navigate through different apps and through the internet independently. However, typing is such an essential foundational skill as they build on their technology skills. These keyboards will allow us to practice & play typing games while being able to view the entire screen (whereas without a separate keyboard, we would be limited to using the onscreen iPad keyboard).
Showing the proper hand and finger placement for typing will help build their confidence as a student and be a wonderful skill that they can improve on the years to come.
