I teach 1st grade in a Title I School public school with 98% of the students living in poverty. Our school was washed away by Hurricane Katrina and was rebuilt as a modular trailer campus where we are now situated. Two years ago I saw all the devastation that occurred here and was moved to leave the North and a 15 year career to become a Teacher and help the children here. I have been rewarded and rewarded over and over again watching my wonderful students learn and grow. My class size is increasing to 30 students this year which means more noise and distraction for my class. The room size remains the same. The solution to this problem is a Yacker Tracker which measures the level of noise in the room. Young children are so excited about learning they simply are unaware of how loud it gets when everyone is talking. By installing a Yacker Tracker in the room, students will be able to self regulate their noise which in turn will keep everyone less distracted and more on task = better and increasing learning. Our other issue is the sheer volume of paper in the room. With 5 subjects and countless assignments the room is overflowing with paper and is hard as we try to keep it organized we are having great difficulty. We are in desperate need of a wood tabletop communication center where we can put all our handouts and assignments, a tabletop paper center to put all our construction paper and writing paper, and a special wood tabletop writing center where we can organize all our writing center materials. These materials will help my wonderful students to remain organized, focused, and on task, and thus succeed at all that they do. I try to provide as much as I am able for my students so they can have the best possible school experience and develop a love for learning. Your donation of these items will greatly aid me with this objective. I appreciate all your help.
