My Project

Social emotional skills are difficult for many children, but perhaps never so much as for neurodivergent children, who learn and view the world differently than many of us. This barrier to learning and understanding was only strengthened with shutdowns due the the pandemic. During these shutdowns, many (now school aged) children lost out on opportunities for social development during their critical development time between 0-3. While many say the pandemic is over, teachers continue to see large populations of students who are heavily affected by the trauma created by the pandemic. It may be decades before we truly understand the negative impact our children experienced, and will continue to experience.

Children who lack social emotional skills and understanding will not simply develop these skills on their own, rather these are skills that need to be intentionally instructed.

This is true of both neurodivergent and neurotypical children, both of whom are present in my special education population. By helping to provide social emotional curriculum enhancements (which is what these books will accomplish) you are providing students with engaging, high interest materials that help students begin and/or continue to develop skills and strategies to not only make their lives better, but to allow students to develop skills to improve their school environments, and the world.
