Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I school in Northern Virginia. My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions. They love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions.
They are always wondering and want to know as much as they can about the world around them.
Their eagerness to acquire knowledge is awe-inspiring. They are a wonderful group and I am so lucky to have a class that is excited about learning.
My Project
Using the egg incubator will give my students the opportunity to hatch and raise baby chicks. Living in the suburbs my students have limited experience with raising and caring for animals. The products that I have selected will allow my students to have a hands-on learning experience that will engage and excite them.
Students will see first hand how a baby chick develops, hatches and grows.
Working together they will ensure the temperature and humidity of the incubator on a daily basis. They will also document the growth of the chick through candling. Together they will see how a chick hatches out of an egg. They will also help to feed and care for the chicks for several days after they hatch.
Having the needed materials will allow my students to have a learning experience they can look back on for the rest of their lives.
