Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have taken the first step in the Breathe for Change SEL*F and 200+ hour yoga teacher instructor certification. This was a transformative experience during an extremely difficult time professionally and personally. I currently use my first training in my current classes in how I approach topics, students, and peers, teaching them, purposefully and modeling, how to create healthy and lasting habits in communication, self-care, stress management, workload, etc. I also have been teaching yoga and guided meaningful meditation classes to 20+ students 5x a week on top of my content-specific courses. Students were wary of this course at first, but as the semester has moved forward, more and more students have joined and invested in their own self-care, to the point we had to cap the class until the next semester.
The next level will allow me to help train other teachers, staff, and administration within my district and beyond on how to implement these strategies and create a safe, effective, supportive work or classroom environment.
I adore my job but am fully knowledgeable in the stressors and difficulties it possesses. If it weren't for the first level of this course, I would have left education as many have done. I want to be able to teach what I have learned to others to maintain our wonderful teachers.
