This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our community school is very diverse where many backgrounds and languages are represented. For most of our students, English is not the primary language. As a result, my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face on an everyday basis, I am always looking to provide my students with meaningful learning experiences.

My students show up to school excited and ready to learn!

It is my goal to help my students not only reach the next reading level, but to keep my students motivated to learn.

My Project

Recently, my students had a presentation where a guest speaker came to our school to talk to our 5th graders about insects to prepare us for one of our upcoming reading units. Wow was our speaker great! During this assembly, I realized how important it is for my students to have real life examples of insects in front of them.

Pictures never do justice when trying to explore our natural world!

As a result, I am requesting a few hands on valuable items that will bring our learning to life when my students read The Most Beautiful Roof in the World. As Albert Einstein said, "The only source of knowledge is experience." My students need to be able to observe the butterflies, ants, spider, and insects up close and personal to truly think and act like scientists. The Geo World Bugs Collection of 12 Real Insects will be a great introduction to our new reading unit. These items will help give my students a better view of insects. Later in the reading unit, my students will have a choice between butterflies or ants to research, so The Real 12 Mix Beautiful Butterfly Display and Ant Specimen will allow my students to physically see the insect they are researching about. The learning possibilities will be endless with having these hands on little critters!
