Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are entering Kindergarten in 2011 and will graduate in 2024. Can you imagine what technology will be like in 13 years? They need to be immersed in technology starting in their first year of school. Unfortunately their teacher does not have the technology needed to expose them to it.

My students live in the inner city of a very large urban city.

They are in the lower socioeconomic levels and do not have much exposure to technology outside of school. We are a Kindergarten Center so our students are the only students in the school. It is a place where they can come and feel safe and are enthusiastic about learning. It would be so terrific if we were able to open their eyes to what the world has to offer, if only we had the resources.

My Project

I am requesting a laptop computer that will benefit my students. I truly believe that if we are able to utilize the many CDs and websites that our Math and Reading programs offer, I will be giving our students a head start on their future. Technology is fast paced, always changing and getting better and easier. If I can give my students the ability to learn how to navigate a website, play reading and math games, listen to a story, and more, I will be getting them ready for the world. With this laptop I will also be able to utilize my document camera anywhere in the classroom, and I will be able to assess my students anywhere in the school.

I think it is a teacher's job to prepare their students for the future, unfortunately without the proper tools I will be unable to do that to the maximum potential.

Having technology in the classroom seems like it should be a requirement, unfortunaley in our bad economic times it is not. Bringing this laptop into my classroom will make a world of difference in preparing my students for their futures in a very technological world.
