The students at our school LOVE books!
They love reading them, writing them and learning with them. What they haven't yet experienced is hearing from a published author about exactly how to write and illustrate an amazing book.
When my class is writing their books, it is hard to talk them into writing and re-writing their books when changes need to be made. Hearing a professional explain that book writing takes many drafts and so much hard work will help them see the process that is necessary when they are writing their own books. Please, help the students at our school experience this incredible opportunity.
My Project
When anyone is learning the skills necessary to be successful at their craft, they learn from experienced professionals. Writing is no different! Students need to hear how real authors are writing and illustrating real books in order to be inspired to write themselves. This project will allow students ages 3-11 to learn how Jennifer O'Connell wrote and illustrated the book, "The Eye of the Whale." Understanding this process will inspire them, and open their eyes to the behind-the-scenes process that authors go through.This project will make an incredible difference to our school. Jennifer O'Connell has graciously offered to sign copies of any one of her books students bring to the presentation. I want to give them this special opportunity to connect a name on a page to an encouraging role model. Please, help bring Jennifer O'Connell to our school to inspire our young readers and writers!

(Jennifer will come to give her, "Eye of the Whale" presentation to two different age groups at our school. Each presentation will be around 45 minutes and each group will see the same things. The first group to meet with her will be students in grades PS-1st, the second will accommodate students in grades 2nd-5th.)
