Help me give my students art supplies, including paints, paper, colored pencils, and a new paper cutter to give my students a chance to explore their creativity!
My students are a diverse group of thoughtful and motivated fifth graders! Coming from a variety of countries, and speaking a variety of languages, my students represent the truly diverse world we live in. As members of a gifted and highly gifted cohort, my students have a thirst for knowledge and an insatiable desire to question everything! As gifted students, they are expected to demonstrate an extremely high level of rigor and academic prowess, while exploring areas of social emotional learning, well-being, and creativity.
Knowing why something is or how it was made is no longer enough; my students want to know how they can improve and engineer change their community!
They are interested and inspired by social movements and strive to be civic minded and informed members of their school community. My students are highly tech savvy, and use that technology daily to collaborate on project based learning activities. They inspire all around them and are a constant reminder that there is a bright future ahead!
My Project
Students will explore the visual arts to balance their screen time and digital assignments in the classroom. We know technology is essential in our 21st-century world, but too much can be detrimental to our students' development. Our rigorous course work can often tempt students to ignore their creative voices and tread on a traditional path of essays and lots of screen time. My teaching philosophy encourages outside the box thinking and allows students to express their academic achievements in a variety of methods. Be it art installation, musical performance, theater exercise, or design project, I want to make sure my students have the materials they need to fully express their artistic voices!
I'd like to help support my students' growth in creativity and artistic expression to enable the emotional well-being, social, and academic needs of my students!
A plethora of paints, colored card stock, and colored pencils help students create with physical tools. Students will use these art supplies to visualize their research and share their knowledge through self-chosen art projects. For example, for our geometry unit students will create a geometrical city using our card stock and new paper cutter. Building, measuring, and designing geometric shapes allows students to show what they know in a hands-on and authentic way! A classroom paper cutter limits my time in the office and lets me spend more time with my students! These supplies will bolster our art cupboard and help get my students creating!
