This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My name is Harper Powell and I am so excited to start my first Donors Choose project!

I teach in a high poverty Title One school in Greenville, South Carolina.

I am a first year teacher and I am so excited to spend my first year with all 14 of my sweet firsties!

My school has a very high ESL (specifically Spanish-speaking) population. Most of my students are on free/reduced lunch. I am filled with joy to teach and my students are filled with joy to learn!

My Project

I strongly believe in process art as a supplement to instruction the in the classroom. Process art is art with a primary focus on the process rather than the product. I have added several items to help me facilitate this in my classroom!

Developing an interest in reading, and a love for books, creates a lifelong reader with an investment in the world around them.

First graders make a HUGE jump in their reading throughout the year through a good teacher, willingness to learn, and authentic/diverse texts.
