FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Ofstie's classroom raised $443
This project is fully funded
I am a 6th grade English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in a very poor area of Brooklyn, NY. My students are beginner English language learners from all different countries, such as Haiti, Mexico, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Panama. They LOVE the author Anne Schraff. Anne Schraff writes books that have subject matter appropriate for middle schoolers, but at a lower reading level that they can enjoy. We have a couple Anne Schraff books already in our classroom library, and they adore them. I would like to do an Anne Schraff author study project with them, which requires us to read three different Anne Schraff books and do a final project analyzing the three books. In order to complete this project, we need one more Anne Schraff book. I am requesting one called "When A Hero Dies," which is about an urban youth whose mentor dies and how he copes with the aftermath. The subject matter is very pertinent for my population of kids, and I know they would adore this book along with our other Anne Schraff books. I would also like to purchase a workbook for the students to share so they can complete some language exercises about the chapters, and a teacher guide to help me get the most out of reading these books. Please help us share the gift of reading and making a project together!
