Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our Central Valley, more than fifty percent of the community are covered by mediCal. Families do not have extra resources. My forty pre-kindergarten students will benefit from these supplies that would enhance connections with their parents and peers and develop social emotional growth. Each student deserves an opportunity to grow and enhance their development. Our program also includes students with specific individual needs and I am trying to get supplies especially for this group of students. Thank you for your consideration. It will make a huge impact.

My Project

Each day my pre-k students ask, “Can we paint?” Having 20 students in the class (2xs a day) and only a three hour class, it’s hard to let all of them paint every day. We spend at least 30 minutes each day outside. So if I were able to wheel this easel easily, not only would I be able to take their most loved activity outside, but we would be able to allow 4 children at a time to paint. This would increase the amount of students that can paint daily. My goal is to offer it to all students daily. Pre-k children learn many skills by easel painting and I’d love to offer this daily!

Some of the things children learn by easel painting are: responsibility, language and literacy, math, gross and fine motor skills, and they get an emotional outlet for their feelings.

Each time a child paints, they know they must get a smock on and get their paper. Then they write their name on it before they paint so that we all know whose paper is painted. They learn to be responsible for themselves. When they make a picture often it refers to a book we read that develops literacy skills and they use language to describe their work. As they make strokes of paint, they use large movements gaining gross motor skills and as they grip the brush they practice fine motor skills. Often children use colors and shapes to express feelings. This resource would really impact daily lives of the students. I appreciate your consideration to help my students.
