We have 24 JV and Varsity softball players on our team. They are all a super polite, hardworking, respectful group of young ladies who are held to a high standard by themselves, their parents, coaches, school staff and peers. They all have maintained passing grades and some of them are even enrolled in honors classes and dual enrollment. They work together very well and are accepting of their role on our team.
The girls attend a Title I school which means we are a low-income school.
Some come from one income families, which makes finances a little difficult. Some have part time jobs as well. This makes their lives a little more complicated when it comes to choices they must make. However, they all manage to make it work and seem to be even better because of it.
My Project
Our players are facing some unprecedented times. We are being exposed to more and more germs every day. This is especially concerning during the outbreak of COVID-19. We would like to have every player have their own school helmet to use to prevent sharing and sanitizing between each batter.
Safety is of our utmost concern.
If we can prevent our student-athletes from spreading this virus, it will help save lives and it will prevent shut down of athletics and face to face school. Both of these are essential to teenagers in order to be successful. There are so many benefits to team sports. It will be detrimental to so many if they are not allowed to participate.
