My Project

My classroom was built in the 90's and still features out-of-date chalkboards. I've been attending in-person and virtual workshops to enhance "Building a Thinking Classroom. Research shows that students work better when challenged and working in collaborative groups. It also shows that having students standing at a whiteboard surface helps them collaborate more. This will allow me to put students into small groups to solve mathematical problems and record their thinking for easy sharing with the class.

Students can brainstorm solutions and record their solutions on whiteboard surfaces throughout my room with these materials.

They can easily travel to other students' work areas to see solutions from their peers and reflect on various ways to solve problems. We burn through a lot of dry-erase markers in class as well, so more markers are needed. Both the whiteboards and markers will help me say goodbye to unused surfaces and blackboards, and HELLO to collaborative work spaces.
